How to use

Jext^® is easy to use. We have broken down the instructions into 5 main steps.
Read these with your grown up to help you both learn them.

Action plan

Are the family, or people, around you prepared if you have an anaphylactic reaction? This 1-page plan includes information on allergens, symptoms, and Jext^® treatment instructions.

Ask a grown up to download the Action Plan in a preferred language, so that it can be easily communicated to people around you.

Expiry alert service

Your Jext^® has an expiry date. You can register with the ALK Expiry Alert Service to receive alerts warning you when your Jext^® is due to expire and needs to be replaced by your GP.

We will send through free notifications by SMS or email, or both, notifying you when your Jext^® is due to expire.

Jext Trainer

You can learn how to use your Jext^® by practising with the Jext^® Trainer.

The Jext^® Trainer is exactly the same as the ‘real’ Jext^® except for three things – it doesn’t contain any adrenaline, there is no needle and it can be used repeatedly. It works in exactly the same way as a ‘real’ Jext^® so it is an excellent way of teaching yourself and others how to use it.

Practise giving yourself Jext^® using your Trainer, whilst following the ‘How to Use’ steps , or whilst watching the demonstration video.

You will feel a small ‘ping’ when you push the black tip into your outer thigh – it will feel a bit like someone flicking their fingers against your skin.

Anaphylaxis Campaign

The Anaphylaxis Campaign is the only UK wide charity to exclusively meet the needs of the growing numbers of people at risk from severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) by providing information and support.

Their ultimate aim is to create a safe environment for all people with allergies by educating the food industry, schools, pre-schools, colleges, health professionals and other key audiences. Their focus is on medical facts, food labelling, risk reduction and allergen management.

The AllergyWise online programmes, developed by the Anaphylaxis Campaign, provide training for families, carers and individuals as well as for health professionals. AllergyWise for GP’s and Practice Nurses is also now available.

The Anaphylaxis Campaign provides tailored services for individual and clinical professional members from just £19 a year and also has a corporate membership programme.

Allergy UK

Allergy UK is a leading national charity providing support, advice and information for those living with allergic disease.

You can find factsheets, allergy avoidance recipes as well as a range of resources on their website. You can sign up to receive allergy alerts and talk to the Helpline team using the Live Chat feature.

Expiry Alert Service

Jext® should not be used after a certain date. This date is called the ‘expiry date’. The expiry date of your Jext® is given on the label.

The company that makes Jext®, ALK, can help you keep an eye on the age of your Jext®. For them to do this, you need to register for an expiry alert.

You will receive free text and/or email alerts saying that your Jext® will soon be too old to use and that you need to get another one from your doctor.
